

Thomas “Tommy” William Farmer, 65, passed into his heavenly home June 30, 2016 surrounded by loved ones.
Tommy was born on October 19, 1950 to the late, Carl and Virginia Farmer in Wilmington, NC. Growing up on Wrightsville Beach, he developed many lifelong friends and a love of the water. Tommy spent much time boating, water skiing and exploring its depths while scuba diving. As much as he loved the beach, he felt at home with his family in the country, especially when he was riding atop his uncles’ tractors.
Tommy graduated from John T. Hoggard High School in 1969 and was honorably discharged from the Naval Reserves in 1970. Tommy worked for New Hanover County Engineering and later, Cape Fear Public Utility Authority.
Survivors include his wife, Glynda Nelson Farmer; daughters Malinda Hall and husband Jason, and Catherine McLamb; his pride and joy, granddaughters Sydney and Peyton Hall; brother Carl H. Farmer, Jr. and wife Wanda; mother-in-law and father-in-law Glen and Charlean Nelson: sister-in-law Josie Conerly and husband Tommy; brother in-law Chris Nelson and wife Sherri; nieces Carla Weiss and husband Mark, Kim Barnes and husband Scott, Kerry Foreman and husband Craig, and Olivia Nelson; nephews Mason and Michael Nelson; special cousins Joe Farmer, Lydia and Henry Hicks, Way and Andrea Hicks and “Little Buddy” Aiden, McKenzie and Jay Long and Charlotte, and Andrew Hicks; as well as many family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1pm-2pm. Burial will follow the service at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the loving care Tommy received at Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
