Tressie was born in Pender County on December 29, 1938. She attended local schools until she met the love of her life, Robert “Bobby” Massengill who followed her home from a church tent revival when they were teenagers. The two later married and had three children Darrell, Regina and Sheila. For over 30 years, Tressie and Bob lived at Wrightsville Beach where Tressie could often be found outside in the water with her pants rolled up above her knees, fishing or digging for clams and oysters or tending to her plants and flowers. She was a former Sunday School Teacher at Pine Valley Church of God and witnessed to everyone she met about what the Lord had done for her. Her television was always turned on to the Christian channel and she loved listening to gospel music by the Gaither’s.
Earlier in her life, Tressie professionally groomed poodles, excelled at cake decorating and always had a generous giving heart to those who were in need.
She is survived by her three children: Darrell (Sonya) Massengill, Regina Ballard (Steve Kuznar), and Sheila (Jeffrey) Baker; sister, Marilyn Horne (Charlie) Skipper; four grandchildren: Mary Beth (Jacob) Cerone, Katie (Matt) Bell, Sydney Baker and Meredith Kuznar as well as four great grandchildren (Elijah, Sophia, Lily, and Carson) and multiple nephews and nieces (Rusty, Ricky, Tony, Phillip, Brad, Travis, Susan, Patricia) and her special nephew Michael Dabney who provided selfless friendship throughout the years. Also her close friend Vickey Ridgeway who was like family to her.
