Ty married Jerri Eller in 1967 and they shared 40 devoted years together. He is survived by his son Joe Cathey, his daughter Holly Walters, and his son-in-law Anderson Walters and by his grandchildren Lily and Andy Walters. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jerri, and his brother Thomas Cathey.
Ty served in the Navy reaching the rank of Chief Petty Officer 2nd Class, he earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, and he worked for the US Veterans’ Administration for many years.
Ty will be remembered as a smart, loving, kind, supportive, and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was beloved and will be greatly missed.
