Vernon Thomas Bunting, Sr., age 85, of Wilmington, NC passed away on August 6, 2026, at his home. He was born on April 7, 1941, in Windsor, NC to John Thomas Bunting and Jesse Allene Souther Bunting.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters: Geraldine Smith, Alice Nixon, Christine Williams.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Bunting; sons: Vernon Bunting, Jr. and E. Scott Bunting and wife Mandy; stepsons: Tony Sears and Kenny Murray and wife Deborah; stepdaughters: Wendy Coleman and Angela Piggot and husband Sam; grandchildren: Nathan Bunting, Nicholas Bunting, Catelyn McDowell, Carigan McDowell, Arielle Coleman, Shannon Coleman, Joey Sears and Bradley Sears; many great grandchildren; sisters: Ann Beckwith and husband Richie and Jessie Hoggard and husband Mike; brothers: Lloyd Belch and wife Kay, Arnold Belch and wife Yvonne, Pete Belch and wife Gay and Randy Sawyer.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30am on Sunday, August 23, 2026 at Castle Hayne Church of God with Pastor Andy Ottaway officiating.
