William Walter DeVane, Sr.

William Walter DeVane, Sr. ?Daddy?, ?Papa?, 77, of Rocky Point, NC died Thursday September 15, 2011 at home. Mr. DeVane was born in Lumberton, NC, February 17, 1934 to the late Charlie DeVane and Lillian Smith DeVane. He was preceded in death by the love of his life Annette DeVane, his brother; Bobby DeVane, sisters; Colleen Deal, Dorothy Dickerson, Sarah Woodcock, Edith Dawson and great granddaughter; Cheyanne Yokely. Mr. William DeVane attended The Church of God. He retired from NC DOT after 52 years of service and Davis Health Care Center as a security guard with 38 years of service. Surviving are his children; Ray DeVane of Rocky Point, NC, Susan Bostic and husband Randy of Rocky Point, NC, Billy DeVane and wife Norma of Sutherland, VA, Frankie DeVane of Rocky Point, Gary DeVane and wife Barbara of Rocky Point, NC, Nelson DeVane and wife Kelby of Rocky Point, NC, eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, two sisters; Frances Backalar and husband George and Ella Rose Shuey, brother; Eddie DeVane and wife Liz of San Antonio, TX, life long friend Tommy Brothers as well as many special nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He was a loving, dedicated and hardworking husband, dad and granddaddy. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM, Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at The Church of God, Middle Sound Loop Road. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. The family would like to express a heart felt thanks to our special angel that was sent in a time of need, Selena Boyette. There was another angel is his life and the apple of his eye, his loving daughter Susie whose exceptional care was extended to both her father and mother. They will both be truly missed.
