
William Alton ""Al"" Hewlett, 66, of Hampstead, NC, died June 26, 2011 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Al was born on June 27, 1944 in Wilmington, NC, to the late Carl Alton Hewlett and Lillie Pepper Hewlett and was preceded in death by his sister, Carlene Marshburn. Al was a member of the Masonboro Baptist Church. He was a retired commercial fisherman who loved the water and hunting with family and friends. His family will remember him as a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. Al was a good friend to all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Brenda Kannan Hewlett and children Sharron Johnny Moore, Carl Karen Hewlett, Dottie James Thompson, Kim Robert Skaggs, Stephanie Davis Floyd, Billy Kelly Clardy, and Doris Russo. Nine grandchildren, Jamie Clardy, John Day, Ashley Kaplan, Jamie Michael Day, Dale Moore, Johnny Moore, Hannah Russo, Austin Hewlett and Madison Thompson. Three great-grandchildren, Damien Day, Alayia McCrainey and Sophie Grace Brown. Sister-in-law Rose Kannan Ganey and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at the Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel on South College Road from 7 to 9 pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 11:00 am at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Randy Horne, Chad Smith, Vince Russo, Mark Dudenhaver, Mike Hutton, Cornelius Robinson and Jerry Ganey. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC, 20004 or to the Juvenile Diabetic Research Foundation Coastal Carolina Branch at 1015 Ashes Drive, Suite 101, Wilmington, NC 28405. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and gratitude for the warm and loving care given by the Coastal Carolina Radiation Oncology Group, the Zimmer Cancer Center Staff and the Coronary Care Unit Staff at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
