

William “Coach” Krebs 91, of Wilmington, NC passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 3, 2026.
Born January 28, 1935, in Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late Albert and Catherine (Mulhall) Krebs.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years Josphine I. (Clarke) Krebs and his son Steven T. Krebs. He is survived by his daughter Joanne Kastberg (James) of Charleston, SC and his son William Krebs (Stefanie) of Bellbrook, Ohio, thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Remembered in love and honoring you in all we do.
William (Bill) was a member of St. Marks Catholic Church in Wilmington, a resident of Cambridge Village, a teacher and Track Coach at Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, NY, a United States Army Veteran and a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.
Bill was an accomplished athlete, sports enthusiast, and lifelong Washington Redskins fan. He attended Mount Saint Michael Academy Class of 1954 in the Bronx, a borough of NYC. He was a member of the track and football teams and the 1954 Penn Relay Champions Team. Bill was awarded a full Track Scholarship to Fordham University Class of 1958 in the Bronx, earning his Bachelor of Science. He continued his track career while serving his country as a member of the Brooke Army Medical Center, winners of the Fourth Army Championship. He was inducted into the Catholic High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame May 28,1992 and the Mount Saint Michael Spiked Shoe Club February 1, 2003.
Bill was an educator and coach at Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, NY. He joined the Stepinac community in 1960 as a Physical Education, Health, and Guidance Teacher, Cross-Country and Track Coach. During his Stepinac years he continued his education earning a Master of Science from the University of Bridgeport. Coach Krebs coached countless young men throughout his 38 years at Stepinac. Many of his student-athletes were awarded athletic scholarships, competing at the collegiate level. Coach Krebs was inducted into the Stepinac Hall of Fame May 16, 1995, for his outstanding support to Stepinac and the entire Crusader community. His legacy will live on through the young men he influenced through his dedicated leadership, wisdom, generosity of spirit, fairness and sense of humor, and the standards of excellence he instilled in his athletes through the culture he helped build.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday June 15, at 10:00am at St. Marks Catholic Church, Wilmington NC. The service will be live streamed for those unable to attend at: https://boxcast.tv/view/funeral-mass---william-krebs-kaqpsqcaycvooscvulfo .
Entombment will be in Oleander Memorial Gardens, Wilmington NC.
