

William Richard Mitchell, 78, of Wilmington, NC went to be with the lord on 7/29/2023 in the early hours with his son Forrest Mitchell by his side. He was born on December 21st, 1944, and grew up in Windsor, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents Jacob Brinkley Mitchell and Hilda Earl Everett.
Rick was wholeheartedly devoted to the Lord and his family and his wife, children, and grandchildren meant the world to him. His second love was his career. He spent his entire 42 years at First Citizens Bank where he left an incredible legacy and served as Senior Vice President. Rick loved visiting the Caribbean islands as he visited most of them but his favorite was Saint Barths which he frequented. He loved sharing his favorite place and creating unforgettable memories with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Rick and Cherry had a second home in Caswell Beach, NC where the family loved to gather for the last 40-plus years. There have been decades of shared memories at the family beach house. He was an avid NC State basketball fan and alumni. Rick’s favorite hobby was fishing on the river with his lifelong friends. If you know Rick, you know he’s never met a stranger in his life. He had the unique ability to start and have engaging conversations with everyone he met.
Rick is survived by his loving wife, Cherry Mitchell; 3 children: Elisabeth Woodard and her spouse Todd, Forrest Mitchell and Holly Mitchell and her spouse Bryan; 10 grandchildren: Katharine Woodard (26), Todd Woodard (24), Caroline Woodard (22),Sarah Woodard (22), Rachael Woodard (20), Brinkley Mitchell (15), Graylin Mitchell (13), Elaina Mitchell (10), Mitchell Joyce (10), Clayton Joyce (10).
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday August 2, 2023 from 10:00am to 11:30am at Coble Funeral and Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1155 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC 28412.
A Funeral Service will start at 11:30 am in the Coble Chapel with Jim Everett officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice on Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington.
