William Bob Swanson

Bob Swanson Maj. U.S. Army ret. William Bob Swanson, 73, of Wilmington, died Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Bob was born October 20, 1937 in Louisburg, NC, son of the late William Linwood Swanson and Idalene Lillian Champion Swanson. His brother, Joe S. Swanson, and stepfather, Sid Champion, preceded him in death. Mr. Swanson proudly served his country, and retired after 30 years as a Major in the U.S. Army. Upon retirement he continued with another 25 years of service with the Federal Government. He moved to Wilmington 10 years ago and started in the Real Estate business. He was an active member of the Cape Fear Shag Club and within the community. He is survived by his son, William T. Swanson Beth of High Point, NC; daughter, Mary S. Ray Randy of Milford, NH; grandson, Nicholas A. Swanson; sister, Judy Lewis of Louisburg, NC; cousin Brenda Bryson; and a nephew, Chris Peoples Jodi, and several other cousins. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at Andrews Market Street Chapel. A funeral service and burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bob's name may be made to Wrightsville Beach Baptist Church, 601 Causeway Drive, Wilmington, NC 28428.
