Marie Lucas passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Deborah Ballance, husband Gerald Ballance; granddaughter Ann Marie McPherson, husband Chris McPherson and daughter Dorothy Marie, and grandson Bryant Ballance.
A graduate from Saratoga High School, she graduated from Wilson School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at Woodard-Herring Hospital, Carolina General and Wilson Memorial Hospital. Over her 40 plus year career, she felt it an honor and a privilege to care for other people.
She enjoyed exercising with her husband, gardening their flowers, putting together puzzles and visiting waterfalls. She loved time spent with her daughter and son-in-law, grandchildren and great granddaughter. She also valued her relationship with Jesus Christ as a member of Unity Free Will Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Lucas, of 63 years; her parents James H. Boykin and Annie Stancil Boykin; and her siblings Carl “Bud” Boykin and Annie Mae Boykin.
A visitation for Marie will be held Saturday, August 30, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Thomas - Yelverton Funeral Home, 2704 Nash St, Wilson, North Carolina 27896.
