OBITUARY
Paul R. Bauer MD
December 17, 1927 – April 3, 2021
Dr. Paul R. Bauer, 93, of Wilson, NC, formerly of Portsmouth, Hampton and Suffolk, VA, passed away April 3, 2021. Paul was born in Buffalo, NY to the late Frederick and Mabel Bauer.
Dr. Bauer attended Milligan College, Tennessee and Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University. He began his medical career with an Internship and then OB-GYN Residency at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD. He then served on the staff in the OB-GYN Department at the U.S. Naval Hospital, Quantico, VA, and the Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, VA. Dr. Bauer was in private OB-GYN practice from 1964-1998 in Portsmouth and Chesapeake, VA. He also served as a contract physician at the U.S. Coast Guard Base, Portsmouth, VA, from 1984-2000. Additionally, he served as an Assistant Professor, OB-GYN Department, at the Eastern Virginia Medical School. Paul had fond memories of his times at his summer childhood home in Ridgeway, Ontario, Canada. He was a lifelong sailor and started racing sailboats at an early age and participated in many races and regattas. He enjoyed spending time cruising the Chesapeake Bay in his sailboat, Cyrena.
Dr. Bauer is survived by his wife of 35 years, Faye P. Bauer; his children, Janet Rossi, Diana Anderson (Tracy), David Bauer, Paul R. Bauer, Jr. (Joy), Leslie C. Bauer (Tracie), John Newton (Jill) and Heather Braddy (Chad), as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, 6 Herndon Ave., Annapolis, MD 21403.

Faye I am deeply sadden to hear about Dr Bauer. I have had you both on my mind and tried to get in touch but could not reach you.
I loved working for Dr Bauer. He was so sweet and a wonderful boss. I have really missed him over the years.
