September 23, 1941 - December 16, 2021
She was born Peggy Ann Batts to Guy and Minnie Batts, September 23, 1941 in Elm City, NC. Peggy graduated from Elm City High School in 1959 and married James W. Peacock (Jim) in 1964.
Peggy was a homemaker, entrepreneur, but foremost, a dear mother. When her children were young, she spent many loving years in her home fostering their growth. She found an outlet for her creativity in needlework and embraced arts and crafting which she shared with her children. She is remembered for her needlepoint, knitting, cross-stitching and the embroidered smock dresses she made. She loved the Christmas season and is remembered for her handmade Christmas stockings, ornaments, and decorations. After staying home and caring for her two children for several years, she, along with her sisters, started JoLiAn Shoes, which eventually grew to include women’s apparel. She enjoyed navigating the business aspects of the store as well as selecting which fashion brands and accessories to offer the customers but, most of all, she enjoyed greeting and interacting with their customers.
After retiring from JoLiAn in 2013, Peggy took classes to learn the principles of art and began painting with acrylics. She also returned to her needlecrafts; knitting sweaters and scarves for herself and others. Retirement afforded her more time to spend with dear friends and family and she enjoyed every moment with them.
Her church was important to her. She was involved with the church as a member of a Circle who provided care and support to others, supervised the recreation activities for the summer reading program and, recently, became a board member for The West Nash United Methodist Thrift Store.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Peacock (Jim) and brother Willie T. Batts (Reba). She is survived by her son, James W. Peacock, Jr (Jamie) (Partner – Chris), daughter, Catherine Crocker (Bert), step-granddaughter, Kristen Emerson (Steve), sisters: Joyce Munford, Patsy Proctor, Linda Deters (Bud), brothers: Bobby R. Batts (Ann), Marvin Batts (Lynn), sister-in-law Kitty Wainwright, life-long friend Jenny Dees and her beloved dog, Missy.
Peggy will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend who cherished the opportunity to offer care and support to anyone in need. She will be remembered as being kind, without rancor or condemnation towards anyone. She was stoic and a brave soul. Her children will be forever grateful for her love, her support and the cherished memories made. As we go forward, we will begin to see and acknowledge the ways in which she lives on in each of us.
