

Phoebe was born in Reelsboro, NC on October 8, 1930 to her late parents Fredrick Asher Buck and Tessie Lee Buck and lived happily in Saratoga, NC for 65 years. She was a kind, caring, loving, thoughtful, and God-loving woman. Phoebe was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend, educator, and community member.
Phoebe was married to her late husband, Charles Tyson Shackelford, for 41 years.
Surviving are her children: daughter, Sharon Shackelford Hughes of Wilson, son, Charles Tyson (Ty) Shackelford Jr. and wife, Janice Ellis Shackelford, of Wilson, and daughter, Rebecca Shackelford Elliott and husband, Thomas Elias Elliott Jr., of Saratoga; her grandchildren; Rachel Joy Dodgens (Wayne), Adam Tyson Shackelford, Andrew Jared Shackelford, Hope Hughes Arizpe (Tony), Casey Sharon Elliott, and Tessa White Elliott; her great-grandchildren: Charlie Arizpe, Kai Dodgens, Cash Elliott Dawson, Nathan Arizpe, and Dynell Elliott Dawson; her loving brother, Freddie Buck and wife, Betty Buck; many beloved great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews: Jana Coulter (Neal) and son, Liam Robinson and daughter, Arika Nguyen (Van) and children, Wyatt and Nora, Sara Monroe and sons, Tucker and Zeke, Gavin Hughes (Melai) and children, Cody and Kalia, Shane Ellis (Sandra) and children, David Ellis (Fab), Sarah Ellis, Matthew Ellis, Hannah Ellis, Rachel Ellis, Rebekah Ellis, Duane Ellis (Bertha) and children, Cameron “Bob” Ellis, Johnny Ellis, Jesse Ellis, Jonathan Ellis (Madison) and Thomas Ellis; cherished family, Bruce Woods, Jimmy Woods, Connie Richardson, Pat Nash, Joe Buck, Phyllis Buck, Tim Buck and their families.
In addition to her late husband and parents, Phoebe was preceded in death by her sister, Neva Lee Woods; grandson, Robbie Ellis; great-grandson, Cameron Ellis; nephew, Earl Buck; brother-in-law, Victor Woods, and Star, her special furry friend and companion of 15 years.
Phoebe was a member of the Reelsboro Pentecostal Holiness Church and Saratoga Christian Church. She was a loving lady who graduated from Atlantic Christian College and was the Homecoming Queen in 1949. Phoebe was an educator at Gardners Elementary School from 1970-1998 and touched the lives of many children in the community for more than 28 years. She was also a member of the Saratoga Garden Club and Book Club and enjoyed being involved and supportive of so many people in Saratoga when her children were growing up.
Phoebe was a sweet, compassionate, loving, kind-hearted woman who had faith in the goodness of everyone. Phoebe always shared words of love.
The visitation with family will be at Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 15th, from 12:30 pm -1:30 pm, with the graveside service following at 2:00 pm in Evergreen Memorial Park with Pastor Alex Ellis officiating.
The Shackelford family asks that masks be worn during the visitation at the funeral home if possible.
