Sally Loutoria Whitley

Sally was preceded in death by her husband James Albert Whitley, her son Steven Wayne Whitley, her brother Benjamin Thomas Woodard II, and her parents Charles Cooper and Alma Josephine (Raper) Woodard.

She is survived by her son Roger Whitley (and Les Bahr) of Allentown, PA, two sisters; Norma Winborne, and Brenda (and Joe) Batten, one brother; Charles (and Patsy Spence) Woodard, Jr., along with beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

She spent her childhood in Lucama, NC and moved to Wilson, NC after marrying James. She was a member of the Shiloh Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Sally was an avid photographer and loved to travel far and wide. Early in her life, travel was mostly by car to explore NC and surrounding states with James, family, and friends. With retirement, she discovered the joys of travel by cruise ship. Roger introduced her to international travel with an adventure to Costa Rica. Many more countries were to follow, including the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Canada, Croatia, Turkey, and Greece. Back home, there was always time to celebrate a birthday or gather with family and friends by potluck meals or meeting at a local restaurant. When enjoying time at home, she shared the company of 3 cats over the years: Rex, Misty, and Samantha.

Family will be receiving visitors on Friday, October 15, 2021 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m., with funeral services immediately following at 7:00 p.m. at Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Home, 2704 Nash St., N, Wilson, NC 27896. Interment will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 11:00 am at Evergreen Memorial Park in Wilson, NC.

While flowers are appreciated, an alternative is a memorial donation to the SECU Hospice House. Checks payable to “Johnston Health Foundation” with a note stating the donation is in honor of Sally Whitley may be mailed to SECU Hospice House, 426 Hospital Road, P. O. Box 1376, Smithfield, NC 27577.
