At the moment, I can't remember the who or how I found out about Cal's passing last week, but I think I'm still in shock. Even though I was at his funeral yesterday, I still can't quite believe that he is gone. Cal and Jimmy and I had SOOOO MUCH FUN TOGETHER in high school and on the road with The Axemen band. It was great to see so many of the members of Axeman and Axe there, but as Jimmy and I were talking, we both swore that we caught glimpses of Cal, there in the crowded lobby of the funeral home.

Cal loved to laugh and I did to, so we did that a lot.  Cal was the most talented drummer I knew, and that's why I tried to recruit him for Gregg Allman's second solo album. He couldn't join us, but Randall Bramblett did. On top of everything, Cal Hale was one of the most caring people you could ever hope to meet in this lifetime. 

His caring showed up in many ways, but with his mama and sisters, his sweet love was always there in his care for them, in their time of need. For over 20 years, Cal loved Brenda and her tender care for him, through thick and thin, all the way to the end, is what love is all about.

Cal was the last in his family to shed this mortal coil and today he dances with all those he loved on this part of the great adventure! God Bless the remembrance of his sweet soul!  I Love you and will miss you Cal!

Brenda, we are so sorry for your loss of Cal.
He was a wonderful person & a great musician. He will be missed by so many, especially you.

I was heartbroken to learn of my friend Cal’s passing. He was not only a gifted drummer but also a kind and generous friend. More than anything, I will remember Cal’s thoughtfulness, loyalty, and compassion. My deepest condolences to his family and to his many friends who shared in his life and music. To my friend Cal, wherever you are in your journey, may God's Grace be your shelter, His Peace your stillness, and His Love your light.

Cal was a good friend and a fantastic drummer. He played drums on one of Cannan Bound Band’s gospel records recorded at Maxwell Sound studio. We had a great time recording it. Cal played every session and wouldn’t take pay for it. He will definitely be missed.  R. I. P.  Cal Hale
