David Serel Shelton

David Serel Shelton, age 74, of Statham, Georgia passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025. David was born in Atlanta to the late Henry and Geneva Wynn Shelton. He was a 1968 graduate of Athens High School and received an Associate Machinist Degree from Athens Technical College. He was employed with Wellington Puritan Mills, Inc. and Athena Machine Industrial Company. David was a faithful servant of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, serving as an Evangelist in the Gospel Tract Ministry. He attended Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Watkinsville and lately was attending Academy Baptist Church in Jefferson.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Evans Shelton, and his daughter, Melinda Locklear. He is survived by his daughter, Wendy Prather; brothers: Eric (Betty) Shelton of Jefferson, and Steve Shelton of Watkinsville; sister, Serena Jordan of Hull; and grandchildren: Brent Prather of Boise, ID, and Preston (Susannah) Prather, Nicholas Peters, and Grace Locklear, all of Athens.

The family would like to thank Stephen and Sherry Walden and the precious and caring staff of Walden's Cove Personal Care Home in Jefferson, GA.

The family has asked for No Flowers; instead, donations may be made to Academy Baptist Church Youth, P.O. Box 716, Jefferson, GA 30549.

A Visitation for family and friends will be held at Smith Funeral Home, 755 Atlanta Hwy SE, Winder on Saturday, February 8, 2025 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am in Smith Memory Chapel with Pastor Eric Shelton officiating. The Burial will follow at Barrow Memorial Gardens.
