

Donald Phillips Wildsmith passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025 at the of 77. Don was born in Memphis, TN to the late Leon and Margaret Wildsmith. He was a graduate of Frasier High School in Memphis. After high school he joined the military and faithfully served 30 years. During his military career, Don served in many areas including as a Command Master Chief at Parris Island, an Army Medivac Helicopter Crew Chief in Vietnam, and a tour of duty in Iraq. During his time in the Marines and the Navy, Don was awarded numerous decorations including, but not limited to: Distinguished Flying Cross, two Bronze Stars, two Purple Hearts, Navy and Marine commendation, Navy and Marine Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon. He also completed numerous courses including the Navy Customer Service Course, Family Advocacy Skills Training, and Alcohol Abuse Supervisor's Training, Don was a Master Carpenter. After retirement from the military, he moved to Winder and served as the City Arts Director for ten years and was deeply involved with the Winder-Barrow Community Theatre. He was a member of Winder First United Methodist Church and helped with Methodist Youth Missions.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Wildsmith. Don is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dana Scoates Wildsmith of Winder and his daughter Snow (Barry Gray) Wildsmith of Mooresville, NC. He is also survived by his brother, David Wildsmith of Knoxville and several nieces and nephews.
Donald Phillips Wildsmith will be buried at sea with full military honors.
