Fro gave me my nickname, "JC", the only one I have ever had. That warm Spring, we, Fro and a few other guys, had skipped school at Peachtree High and had gone swimming in one of the small lakes in the area. Afterward, while we were all air-drying on the grass, my long hair was curling madly around my cheeks. Between that and my wispy mustache, the effect was enough that Fro said that I looked like those pictures of Jesus Christ. That loaded nickname was quickly shortened to "J.C.," a memory I've treasured as an example of that expansive "gangster" generosity that Fro exuded like a cologne.

"Googling" him at this long departure, and then finding him gone, leaves a new hollowness in my chest, another one to join the others that rest there. Unlike so many others, my memories of Forrest are full-colour, rich and textured; as long as I last, he lives in those parts of me.

I wonder, how did he die? There are no good ways to die, and I know that I've avoided a few ...well, I hope he found ease, at last.

I am saddened to hear of my cousin Forrest's death. Although we have not had contact for decades, I certainly have thought of him and all of you at times over the years. Would certainly like to re-establish a connection with you Martha, Rene and Kerrianne-- and to get to know you Denise, Sam and Jamie.

So sorry to hear of "Fro" 's passing. He was a real hoot and a memorable character from our Peachtree High School days. Right after my Mother passed in 1996, Fro had come by my folks home asking for me, but didn't leave any contact info. I've often wished we had reconnected. Loss is tough stuff, and I hope you have all the support you need to face it. Just lost my Dad and Brother last year, and it still stings. Bless you all and rest, Forrest, rest.
