Born in Cherokee County, S.C., he was the son of the late Robert L. and Emma Childers. He was retired from the Department of Transportation after 22 years of service and was a United States Army veteran during the Korean conflict.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Juanita S. Childers, Winder; several nieces and nephews; brothers, Robert Childers, Mt. Holly, N.C., Dan Childers and Gene Childers, both of Winder; and sisters, Helen Holet, Decatur, Betty Ruthledge and Evelyn Gilreath, both of Bethlehem.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 26, at 2 p.m. from Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Brooks officiating. Burial will be in the Hebron Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, February 25, from 5 to 8 p.m.
