Latrell "Granny" Canup White

Edna Latrell White of Bethlehem, GA passed away on September 30, 2025 at the age of 104. She was born in Jackson County to the late Henry Lee, Sr. and Lula Elizabeth Walden Canup. Latrelle was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Lewis Richard White, and son Robert Lewis White. She is also preceded in death by brothers: Henry Lee Canup, Jr., Woodrow Dean “WD” Canup, Clyde Willie Canup, James Allen Canup, Ralph Randolph Canup, and Samuel Douglas “Mack” Canup; and sisters: Jessie Lee Canup, Mary Lanell Etheridge (twin sister), Bertie Mae Bell, and Betty Jean Griffeth.

She was a seamstress and worked at Carwood Manufacturing Plant in Winder for almost 50 years until she retired to take care of her husband until his passing in 1992. After his death, Latrell became certified as a CNA in 1993. She accepted a job at the Winder Healthcare and Rehab Center as a Hydration Aid where she ensured that all residents were provided with necessary fluids and nutrition. She reluctantly gave up that job, which she loved, at the age of 95.

Latrell was the oldest living member of Bethlehem Church and was part of the Bethlehem Masonic Lodge widow group. She was also a long-standing member of the organization “SWAT” (Seniors With A Testimony) which is a group that does volunteer work in the community. She loved to dance and often entertained her family and friends by doing “The Charleston” until she was in her 90s. She last danced publicly to her favorite song, “Down Yonder”, at her and her twin sister’s 90th birthday party.

Surviving are her grandchildren: Melissa and Mike Stinchcomb and Melanie and Josh Futch, all of Bethlehem; great grandchildren: Adam Stinchcomb, Brandon Stinchcomb, and Lindsey Futch all of Bethlehem, and Trent Futch (Kristin) of Dahlonega; siblings: Anne Hawkins and Donnie (Linda) Canup both of Winder; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

A Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, October 2, 2025 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Smith Funeral Home, 755 Atlanta Hwy SE, Winder, GA. The Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 pm in Smith Memory Chapel. She will be laid to rest at Barrow Memorial Gardens.
