Leo Wendell Evans

Leo Wendell Evans, age 68, of Statham, GA passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023. Wendell was born to the late Leo W Evans and Margie Trammel Lord. He was a 1973 graduate of Monroe Area High School and received an Associates Degree from Athens Technical College and had a career as an Insurance Agent. He was a member of The Jefferson Church in Jefferson. When not working, Wendell enjoyed fishing, wood working, and watching baseball and football, specifically the 49rs and the Georgia Bulldogs. He coached his son in little league baseball for ten years. Wendell was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, Wendell was preceded in death by his son, Collin Evans; stepfather, Pug Lord; sister in law, Darlene Kinsey; aunts and uncles: Foster Luke, R.L. Stapp, Sadie Casey, Peggy Cannon, Dot Shellnut, George (Pete) Evans, George Trammell, Clarsy Childs, Charles Trammell, Bruce Trammell. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Shirlee Grizzle Evans; son, Drew Kinsey of Statham; brother, Jeffrey Evans of Winder; grandchildren: Collin Grady Kinsey and Lucas Ryan Kinsey; and aunts: Mary Frances Luke of Bogart, Amanda Reid of Covington, and Shirley Burton and Bonnie Smith both of Monroe.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Smith Funeral Home, 755 Atlanta Hwy SE, Winder, Georgia. Following the visitation will be a Memorial Service at 4:00 PM in Smith Memory Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to St.Jude Children's Hospital.
