Louis Edward "Ed" Patmore, Jr., age 80 of Winder, GA, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025. Born in Corpus Christi, TX, Ed spent his formative years in College Park, GA, which afforded him the opportunity to graduate from College Park High School, an experience that he clearly cherished. After significant stays in Norcross and Buford (GA), he and his wife, Dianne moved to Winder, GA. Surprisingly to most of us, that was 17 years ago. After graduating from Georgia State University with a degree in Physics, he followed his college ROTC experiences into the Army, where he ultimately made 1st Lieutenant before concluding his service and entering the private sector. After a few TV repair, etc. jobs, he found his way to Scientific Atlanta, where he spent over 30 years working as a Satellite Communications Engineer. From there he had several multi-year jobs including DataPath and Bio-Flow.
Ed had a talent and love for music that included the ability to play multiple instruments, including the saxophone, bass guitar, keyboard, and most recently, the drums. In his younger days he enjoyed playing music, boating, water skiing and tinkering with electronics. In his later years he gave up boating and water skiing and spent his free time playing music, helping his neighbors and loving his dogs. It would be remiss not to mention his love of Sunday afternoon lunches at Longhorn with his wife, kids and grandkids. Ed never met a stranger and didn’t miss an opportunity to catch up with an old or new friend. In 2018 Ed lost nearly 100% of his sight in both eyes. While this loss was personally devastating on so many levels, we believe what he missed the most about not seeing was being able to help people with whatever they needed help with. Ed (Dad) genuinely liked to help. And he did. We sincerely appreciate him and will always be grateful for the years we had.
Ed was predeceased by his father, Louis Edward Patmore, Sr., his mother, Grace Pepin Patmore, his youngest son, David Patmore, and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Tish (Ben) Seay. He is survived by his dedicated wife of 49 years, Dianne; son, Rick (Crystal) Patmore; daughter, Jennifer (Cody) Westbrook; son, Louis Patmore; son, Rob (Christie) Patmore; sister, Barbara (Jay) Barker; brother, Ted (Kathy) Patmore; brother-in-law, Joe (Bonnie) Robinson; four grandchildren: Tori and Austin Westbrook; Kaitlyn and Gracie Patmore; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There will be a Visitation for family and friends on Saturday, November 8 from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm at Smith Funeral Home, 755 Atlanta Hwy SE, Winder, GA, 30680 with a Graveside Funeral Service, with Military Honors, at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA on Thursday, November 13 at 2:00 pm.
Nothing necessary, but in lieu of flowers, please donate to your local Humane Society.
