Malhon Shoemake, age 91, of Bethlehem, GA, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2013. Malhon attended Morningside Baptist Church, Winder. He was a WWII veteran who earned three purple hearts and a bronze star for his service to the United States Army. During his life, he worked in both Gwinnett and Barrow County as a heavy equipment operator. Malhon is preceded in death by his parents, George and Effie Shoemake; two brothers, Guy and Edmond Shoemake; and two sisters, Ora Lee Sloan and Johnnie McDaniel. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Jenny M. Shoemake of Bethlehem; a son, Ricky (Deanna) Shoemake of Bethlehem; a daughter, Ann Simmons of Bethlehem; two sisters, Ollie and Ossie Walls, both of Bethlehem; three grandchildren, Jerry (Tracy) Simmons, and Mark and Megan Shoemake; and three great-grandchildren, Faith, Justin, and Logan Simmons; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2-9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Smith Funeral Home, Winder. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 with Reverend Tim Aaron officiating. The burial will follow the service at Barrow Memorial Gardens, Winder. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Morningside Baptist Church, 580 Miles Patrick Rd., Winder, GA 30680.
