Mary Ruth Hardy

Mary Ruth Hardy, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died peacefully on July 18, 2026. She was born to the late Fred W. and Mattie Floyce Gailey on August 15, 1939, in Gainesville, Georgia.

Family was the whole heart of Ruth’s life. A devoted grandmother, she gave generously without hesitation. She offered comfort without judgment and made every person feel as though they belonged, no matter what.

Survivors include her children Judy Cunningham (the late Dan), Mary Sue Banister (Sims), Janie McEver (Carter) and Jimmy Hardy (Carmela), 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved siblings, Virginia Little (the late Emerson), Betty Cofield (the late Sidney), Nancy Campbell (Ted), Perry Gailey (the late Rachel), Lewis Gailey (Opel) and Sandra Furr (Jack).

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Stanley Hardy; siblings Ray Gailey, Jack Gailey, Margaret Cathcart and Thelma “Shorty” Freeman.

Ruth’s spirit is carried on by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We find peace in knowing that she is reunited with those she loved and missed so dearly.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, August 14, 2026, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Winder, Georgia.
