Born in Watkinsville, she was the daughter of the late Dock and Maudie Truelove Tanksley. She was a member of Winder Apostolic Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, where she was a former Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Hammond was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Bishop Grover Hammond; brothers, Hobert and Waymon Tanksley; and sisters, Vada Mattox and Ruby Thrasher.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Reggie and Janice Hammond, Statham; daughter and son-in-law, Pastor Patsy Nell Collins and Dallas Collins, Round O, S.C.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Memphis Eason, Conyers; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 1, at 3 p.m. from the Winder Apostolic Church of the Lord Jesus Christ with the Revs. Tommy Baker and Jeff Long officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Smith Funeral home Saturday, March 31, from 6 to 9 p.m.
