A Life of Adventure, Independence, and Boundless Curiosity
Roy Carmack Wyatt, 92, a longtime member of the Lilburn and Winder, GA, communities, passed away on October 7, 2026, after a remarkable life of adventure, accomplishment, and independence.
Born May 8, 1934, to James Priestly Wyatt and Orville Gertrude Crider Wyatt, in Jackson, TN, he embraced life with uncommon curiosity and determination, a love of challenges, and a willingness to venture beyond the ordinary.
Roy began his career in the banking field and worked for many decades with Greeson Homes in Winder, GA. In addition to his financial expertise, he maintained a license in insurance and a certification in wastewater management. His resourcefulness and willingness to master technical skills reflected his belief that problems were meant to be solved and learning should never stop.
Roy never let age - or conventional expectations - determine what he could accomplish.
A licensed airplane and seaplane pilot, Roy relished the freedom and exhilaration of aviation. He also loved the open road, participating in motorcycle rallies and rides to many of the United States and Canada. He was also an avid cyclist. Roy participated multiple times in the Bicycle Ride Across Georgia (BRAG) with his grandchildren, Brandon and Eric, as well as other organized cycling events in other states.
He regularly ran Atlanta’s Fourth of July Peachtree Road Race, often alongside Keith. On several January 1sts, he joined the Polar Plunge at Lake Lanier—welcoming the new year with a challenge most people would happily avoid. In pleasant weather, Roy and Lois would catch the wind is their sails and leisurely boat through the harbors and straights at Lake Lanier.
At 75, Roy climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa’s highest mountain, with his son Keith. They later traveled to Peru and attempted an ascent of an ice-covered mountain in the Andes, making it partway up before ending their climb. And a bit closer to home, Roy and Keith tried their hand at hang gliding off Lookout Mountain in Tennessee.
For Roy, the challenge was often as rewarding as the accomplishment. Growing older never meant doing less.
Roy was a charter member of the Moose Lodge in Winder, Georgia, when it started in 1986. He spent many hours enjoying the social and philanthropic pursuits of the lodge and was a regular at most Moose events until he recently moved to Memory Care.
Roy is survived by his wife, Lois Honeycutt Smith Wyatt; his son, David Keith Wyatt and wife Lily Munion-Wyatt; his daughter, Dana Ann Wyatt Saffel and husband Thomas Craig Saffel; and stepdaughter Sandra Smith Rego Koch and stepson David Smith and wife Terri Smith. His grandchildren are Brandon Craig Saffel, Eric Thomas Saffel, Eva Rego-Dunkle, and Alexandra Rego-Rahman; his great-grandchildren are Leyla Dunkle and Luna Dunkle. Keith and Dana were born during his marriage to June Frost Wyatt Graham.
In 92 years, Roy never let age define his possibilities. He wanted to experience adventures himself and kept looking toward the next horizon.
A celebration of life will be held October 25, 2026, at the Winder Moose Lodge, 434 GA Hwy 211, Winder, GA from 2pm to 4pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Memory of Roy to the Winder Moose Lodge.
What a remarkable journey.
