

Ruby Lee Chandler, age 81, of Snellville, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. Ruby was born and raised in Raeford, NC as Hattie Ruth McNeil and changed her name to Ruby McNeil. She grew up working on a farm, picking cotton, and was raised by her grandmother.
Ruby migrated north to Rochester, NY in the 50s, married and raised her children. She worked at Strong Memorial and Delco which allowed her to help other family members migrate north as well. In the late 90s, she moved back to the South to help her family.
Ruby played baseball, loved to sew, fish, and to make delicious meals for her family. She was adamant about education, and was so happy when she obtained her diploma at Bryant & Stratton and instilled the importance of education in everyone's lives. She was a business owner of a daycare center and she opened her home to anyone in need. She loved God and He was the center of her life. She taught her whole family and everyone she knew about God. Ruby and her family became members of Antioch Baptist church in Rochester and Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Snellville. The value of God and family has always been important to her. She was very loving and willing to help anyone. The love she shared with her family and loved ones has impacted their lives forever.
She was preceded in death by her dad, her mom Alice Foster, her sister Margie Foster, her brother Herman McNeil, and her grandson Peter LaShawn Holley.
She is survived by her three daughters: Dr. Anquinette Cray, Shirley Cray, and Denise "Peaches" Collins; grandchildren: Unique Be'Ans, Tierra Be'Ans, and Henry LaShar Holley; great-grandchildren: Kayla Bryant, Brianna Bryant, Eric Be'Ans, and Eliza Cobb; brother, Harold Foster; also nieces, cousins, and all of her loved ones.
A visitation for Ruby will be held Sunday, October 12, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM and Funeral Service from 3:00pm at Smith Memory Chapel, 755 Atlanta Hwy SE, Winder, Georgia.
