Shirley Reynolds Metcalf, age 74 of Jefferson, GA, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. Shirley was the daughter of the late Bunyan and Joyce Everett Reynolds. She attended Winder Barrow High School. Shirley retired from Athens Regional Medical Center where she was a dietary clerk. She loved cooking for her family and she was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Larry Lamar Metcalf. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Frances "Susie" Metcalf, brother, Phillip Reynolds; sisters: Jackie Barnett and Debra Lee; sister-in-law, Mildred Reynolds; and granddaughter, Kerrigan Blackwell.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Jerry (Traci) Metcalf of Jefferson and Shane (Fallon) Metcalf of Athens. She is also survived by her brothers, Tony Reynolds of Winder and Ronald (Augustina) Reynolds of Athens; eight grandchildren: Kayla Hudson, Jordan Bolt, Austin Metcalf, Max Metcalf, Luke Metcalf, Maverick Metcalf, Brandon Mitchell, and Cody Allen; and four great-grandchildren: Kameryn Jackson, Callen Hudson, Kinsley Hudson, and Bentley Metcalf.
The family will receive guests at Smith Funeral Home on Sunday, August 23, 2026, from noon until 2:00 pm. Her funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in Smith Memory Chapel. She will be buried at Barrow Memorial Gardens.
