Thomas Andrew Marler

Thomas Andrew Marler “Tom”, 75, of Watkinsville, passed away on December 9, 2016. Tom was a 1958 graduate of Etowah County High school (Alabama) and received his bachelor’s degree in finance from Samford University in 1965, where he played football and baseball. Tom retired from St. Mary’s Healthcare in 2004 and worked part-time for First Baptist Church of Winder until his second retirement in 2012 when he retired to be a “nanny” to his grandchildren.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Ann Hale Marler, formally of Hixson, TN, his children and grandchildren, Lori, Dan, Allyson and Rachel, Portland, OR, Seattle, WA and Burlington, VT; Andrea, Ted, Clay and Carly Pender, Winder, GA; and Adam, Erin, William and Jacob Marler, Ocean Springs, MS. He is also survived by his sisters, Betty Carlisle, Gadsden, AL and Peggy Pruitt, Abbeville, AL, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Willie Marler, Birmingham, AL, his brothers, Herbert Marler and Joe Marler, both of Birmingham.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 13 from 6-8 at Smith Funeral Home in Winder, GA and a memorial service will be held at a later date – December 22, 2016 at 11:00 am at Smith Funeral Home in the Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
