Mary Elizabeth Strickland

Passed away peacefully on October 12, 2019 at the age of 91. Dear mother of Jill Sarluis (Alexis), Rod Strickland (Vera), and Lou Strickland. Cherished grandmother of Christine (Mike), Jason (Tracey), Riley (Natasha), Emma, Megan, Cate, Zachary. Beloved great grandmother of Charlotte and Matthew. Sister to Margaret Gale and Phyllis Morrill. Mary attended Walkerville Collegiate, Grace Hospital Nursing, and the University of Windsor, School of Music. In life music was her guiding light, as a piano teacher, an organist at Glenwood United Church, singing in choirs at Lincoln Road United Church, All Saints Church, The University Singers and the Windsor Symphony Chorus. Aunt Mary was a very quiet, gentle, kindhearted person and much loved by her sister Phyllis Morrill (my Mom). Her and Mom both played the piano like it was nothing. I have many fond memories of her but this one memory stands out the most! It was when she was trying to teach me how to play the piano. That's when the German fraulein appeared. I'm sure it was like trying to teach a kid to walk but this kid just couldn't comprehend it! BUT I did manage to remember one little ditty that I can still play to this day - thanks for all your patience Aunt Mary - we will all miss you. You and Mom can play some duets again now!
Love Sue and Steve McVeigh and family

Mary and I shared much, painting together, happy memories, long ago. Seems like I bumped into her in the market when I visited Windsor, over the years. What are the chances?
My condolences to Jill, Rod and Luann.
