I have just learned of Rick's death after trying unsuccessfully for a couple of months to contact him.He was a member of the Canadian FSHD Network which I run.We spoke several times and met up for coffee when I was passing through Windsor.He was always interesting to chat with and in spite of the physical challenges he faced we usually managed to find something to laugh about.Sad times for those left behind.

I new Rick well from high school years sharing an interest in electronics and loud music.   (I'm sure we all have a little hearing damage from those days)
Lost touch after leaving Windsor in the early 80's but still, was quite saddened to hear of his recent passing.  
I extend my deepest sympathies to Kelly and Melissa to their loss of a husband and father.

Rick became my closest friend shortly after we met in high school electronics class and he was best man at my wedding.

We had many adventures over the years; building hi-fi systems, shuffling his collection of old cars, hunting for burgers after watching late night monster movies, and numerous gabfests about life, the universe, and everything.

The long physical decline of muscular dystrophy has robbed the world of a keen mind and an interesting person.

We'll miss him very much.

Dear Kelly and Melissa:  Thank you for all the help you have given me during this heartbreaking time.  I wish with all my heart that I could be with you.  I know that Rick is finally at peace and I am thankful for his sake. I have loved him since I first saw him as a 2 week old baby and will continue to hold him in my heart until I join him.

There are no words to express our deepest sympathy Kelly and Melissa.  Rick was a gem of a guy, a good friend, a good neighbor, a loving husband to you Kelly and he loved Melissa very much.  Rick's dedication to making changes in the disabled community never left his mind. His passion will carry on within all of us.  We had many jokes about all of our volunteer work on many committees we sat on together.  He is at peace now and I pray that God will give you and Melissa continuous strength during this difficult time.  God bless you and keep you, friends for over 27 years, with heavy hearts we pray, Joannie Cowie and the entire Cowie family
