Well Gloria, Mary, Eileen and now Claire whom I have been calling little "Ronni". I cannot believe it is almost one whole year since I lost my adorable cousin and my very best friend. It's hard to believe that our little Python has been gone so long yet it seems like yesterday morning when we were still laughing on the phone as we did whenever I called him. We miss you terribly and I know you're having a great time up there with your parents. Don't forget to tell my Dad I miss him too so much. I wish we could still talk pal but I've got loads of laughs and memories tucked in my heart. Miss and love you so much. You're crazy cuzz xoxox

His dry humour and infectious laugh made the whole  room  light up and some would bust a gut. One of my funniest memories of Ron when he would try and outdue his friend Steve in seeing who could spend more clothes especially tie's. I enjoyed catching up when he would walk his beloved dog in Walkerville. He will be missed.

I don't have much contact with my former colleagues at VIA. Therefore, it was real shock to hear of Ron's passing. My memories of him go way back to his days in the Niagara Peninsula. After he became my manager I could always call on him whether it was personal or business. He was  there for me. One thing I remember to this day. He came to visit Aldershot station and proudly told me he had just purchased a 486 computer. The salesman had told him that's all the memory he would ever need! My condolences to the Doherty family.

I was so shocked and saddened to read of Ron's passing.  A kind gentleman who truly adored his family. I will treasure the memories on Elsmere Ave. Thoughts and prayers are with you. Rest in Peace Ron.

Ron was a REAL PERSON. I had the pleasure of working with him at The Bay  he was kind and caring and went out of his way to help people . Farewell to a genuine person .

Ron was a class act, of which we will not see again. The end of an era. What I remember about Ron, was his love of animals. He often talked of his beloved dog, Bailey, and of the feral cats he fed, all of which had names. He asked me about my colony cats, every time he saw me..Before he left Via, he donated a first class Via Rail 1 trip, to help my rescue raise funds to spay and neuter stray and feral cats, a cause Ron believed in. Rest in peace Ron.

I had the pleasure of appearing many times before the Canada Pension Plan Review Tribunal, of which Ron was a member. He was kind, sensitive and compassionate when it came time to ruling on the entitlement of a disabled person to a disability pension. On occasion, our paths would cross at a community event, the Via station, or somewhere out in public where he unfailingly greeted me with a smile and hello - the consummate gentleman and the essence of what anyone would define as a truly nice guy. Rest in Peace, Ron. Condolences to the family on your loss.

A true gentleman. Despite my union activities and Ron being management , we were always able to treat each other with the utmost respect; which was not hard as Ron was a witty, fun, good natured and a caring individual who truly cared for his employees. He will be missed.

I was so sorry to hear yesterday of Ron's passing, after such a long battle fought with his usual dignity. I have so many flashbacks of wonderful and fun memories working with Ron (and his hearty laugh), over 17 of his many years with VIA, and then at functions years afterward. I'm sure many colleagues and friends will feel the same sense of real loss of this funny and sweet man. My heartfelt sympathies go out to Gloria and his daughters, that he cherished so much, and spoke so proudly of so often. May you rest in peace Ron, knowing how many lives you've left such a positive impression on. Peaceful journey.

I first met Ron on the company French course while I was at CN Rail back in '79. He was a pleasure to deal with then as a fellow line employee as he was later as a fellow officer. A true gentleman with an astute sense of humour. Windsor Station has not been the same since he left. God Bless you Ron, R.I.P.

I knew Ron back in the 90s, when I was just getting involved in Windsor's political scene. Ron mentored me and showed more confidence in me than I probably deserved.

He was always caring to those around him, and had a laugh that filled the room. His confidence and good spirits inspired the same in those lucky enough to be around him.

Ron was a remarkable man that taught me so much. I've always considered Ron, Gloria, & the girls, Mary and Eileen part of my family. Ron was a huge part of our community. He fought for so long, bravely. I won't forget that smile. He always had the best stories to tell. A friend and neighbour, I won't forget.

Ron was a kind, caring and intelligent man who always took the time to stop, talk, and listen to people.  His family -- including his beautiful dogs -- were always in the forefront for him, but he also cared deeply about his work and community. We all lost a good man and roll model with Ron's passing, but I am sure that the example he set will continue to live on in the hearts of so many of the people who he touched.
