After graduating from Sandwich Collegiate Roy served overseas in the First Canadian Army for two years. He graduated from the Ontario College of Pharmacy in 1951 and took over Paterson’s Pharmacies when his father passed away suddenly. He served as President when Big V Pharmacies was created in 1962.
After retirement Roy fulfilled a lifelong dream and learned to fly, becoming active in the Windsor Flying Club and the Canadian Historical Aircraft Association and making many flights to Alaska and elsewhere in his plane CGPTV. He was also active on the board of the Riverwoods Plantation Resort in Estero, Florida where he spent many happy winters with Orpha. At the same time, Roy took real delight in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and brought the family together frequently for a week at Fern Resort.
Many thanks are due to Karen Drouillard for her care and companionship over the past six years. Thanks are also due to Juanelle Boussey and Jennifer Cox from Bayshore Home Health, and Dr. Yap and the Acute Stroke Unit team at Windsor Regional Hospital Ouellette Campus, for making it possible for Roy to pass away in the home he loved.

It is hard to say goodbye to anyone. But harder when that person has been your brother for 92 years. Roy and I have played together, worked together, agreed and disagreed. But Roy was always there for you. I have always said that Roy has saved my life more then once. At the age of 5 or 6, I was being bullied by an older boy. Yes, we had bullies that long ago. It stopped the first time Roy found out. Later, when I was running a not-for-profit variety store, a visit for Roy with an offer to buy me out, and give me a job with Big V, took all of 2 seconds to say yes. Roy had once again saved me from disaster. Well, Roy, when we meet again I am sure you will be there to steer me in the right direction. Love Keith

Nancy, please accept our sincere condolences on the passing of your dad. I have fond memories of Roy going way back to my first year with Big V when Roy was working on the first Big V pharmacy computer system with John Krukowski at McAuley Big V in Hamilton. Roy was a mentor to me and helped me get elected to Big V's board of directors. Your dad was a legend with Big V.
Due to previous commitments, we were not able to get to Windsor for the services. We will be donating to the Alzheimer Society in memory of Orpha as requested by Roy.

When I was really little, Grandpa was swimming with us in his pool, and after the swim he was feeling a little uncomfortable. He reached into his swimsuit, pulled out a big black ant and said, "Oh, well I guess I really do have ants in my pants!"
Seven-year-old me nearly died of laughter and made that my to go story at school for the next year. "Guys! My grandpa really DID have ants in his pants!!"
