Shirley was born in Chatham, December 28, 1926, and died February 24, 2020, peacefully and at home. She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Patrick, children Ann and Don Hart, Garret and Josie, Andrew, Diana, David, and granddaughters Alice, Emily Ann (1989) and Kathryn. She is joyfully reunited with her parents Dorothy and Jack Waterhouse and sister June Easton. Shirley graduated from Branksome Hall, Toronto, 1945; and obtained her Bachelor of Arts from Brescia College, University of Western Ontario, 1949. She attended Normal School in Toronto (teacher’s college) and taught at Hugh Beaton School in Windsor as well as the Essex County Sanatorium IODE hospital. Shirley is a recipient of the Ontario Volunteer Service Award and past president of the Col. Pearson chapter, IODE. Shirley volunteered at May Court, March of Dimes, and for many busy years at the Willistead Art Gallery and Art Gallery of Windsor, where she was instrumental in the debut of Art in the Park and was co-editor of the three Uncommon Cookbooks. Her family is very thankful to Francine Botton, Hospice of Windsor, and Shirley’s many carers for their loving support. Visitation will be held at Walter D. Kelly Life Celebration Centre (1969 Wyandotte St, E. 519-252-5711) on Friday, February 28, 2020 from 4pm – 7pm. Funeral Service to be held at St. Mary’s Anglican Church (1983 St. Mary's Gate) on Saturday, February 29 at 10am. Interment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Alzheimer Society or to the Art Gallery of Windsor are appreciated.
