William Bill George Shields

It is with broken hearts, that we announce the passing of Bill, at Metropolitan Hospital, on Thursday, August 6, 2015. He had battled cancer for the last three years. Bill was the most loving husband of Gloria (nee Kennedy). Dear brother to Jean (Ken) Marsh in Whitby. He was the beloved uncle to Brian and Kirk Marsh and their families, and dearest brother in law to Phyllis Souilliere and Don Kennedy, both of Windsor. Bill was a cherished friend to David and Dianne Agnew, and special "uncle" to his godsons, Stephen and Marc Agnew. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Sybil Shields of Milton, Ontario, where Bill was born and spent his early years. Bill spent over 40 years at The Windsor Star, retiring in 1993 as Business and Automotive Editor and is remembered fondly by his former colleagues, for both his dedication and his sense of humour. Bill was General Manager of the Windsor Warlocks in the 1970's. He and Gloria billeted several of the players, many of whom stayed in contact with them over the years. He was an avid sports fan, and was very fond of horses, the Detroit Lions and his favourite team, the Detroit Red Wings. If you so desire, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Windsor Chapter, or the Windsor Humane Society, would be greatly appreciated. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service celebrating Bill's life will be held at the Walter D. Kelly Funeral Home (1969 Wyandotte St. E. 519-252-5711)on Wednesday, September 9, with visitation from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, with the service beginning at 3:00 pm. Private family inurnment will follow at a later date.
