

96 years, of Amherstburg, Ontario passed away peacefully on October 5th, 2017. Zarko was born in Srpska Moravica in the former Jugoslavia to Latinka (nee Petrovic) and Simeon Vucinic. He was a proud Cetnik and served as attache to General Jevdjevic during World War II. As the war came to a close, he worked for the Imperial War Graves Commission in Italy. Prior to this, he met and married his devoted wife +Bosiljka/Bessie (nee Kusturin) who preceded him in death. Zarko and Bessie immigrated to Canada, via Halifax, prior to settling in Oakville, Ontario. They later moved to Windsor, Ontario, where Zarko was an active and founding member of Gracanica Serbian Orthodox Church. He later went on to buy and own Duffy's Tavern & Motor Inn in Amherstburg, Ontario where he and Bessie dedicated themselves to being a consummate host and hostess. Zarko was a proud member of numerous organizations, all of which reflected not only his pride in his Serbian heritage, but also his deep and abiding Orthodox faith, as well as his gratitude to his adopted homeland of Canada. Zarko spent the majority of his life in Amherstburg where he contributed to the community and was eventually awarded the Canadian Medal of Distinction at this past 150 year celebration. He was a long serving member of his beloved St. Dimitrije SOC where he served as president for over 30 years. In addition to his many achievements, Zarko will also be remembered for his intelligence, sense of humour, and warmth. He touched the lives of countless people and was always willing to provide assistance, shelter, and employment to those in need. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and was everyone's Cika (Uncle) Zarko. He is predeceased by his parents, siblings, wife +Bessie, son +Sammy (Simeon "Simo" Vucinic), and his grandson +Nicky (Nickola Zec). He is survived by his daughters Grace/Rajka Zec (Ljupco Andjelkovski) and Regal/Radojka (Ljubisha) Marjanovic as well as his grandchildren Jadranka/Adrianna Zec, Sasha and Dayun (Maja) Marjanovic, Tanya (Mike) and Dayna Saba, and his great grandsons Pierce and Jace. While short of stature, Zarko was larger than life, a true gentleman, and one of the last of our greatest generation. He lived a long life, full of triumphs and tragedies, and he met all of these with a humble spirit, a grateful heart, and the knowledge that his steps were led by our loving God. Those steps have now led him home to be reunited with all those he touched in his big and wonderful life. May his memory be eternal! Visitation to be held at Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 895 Ouellette Avenue (519) 254-3223 on Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m., with prayers both evenings at 7:30 p.m. Liturgy for Memory Eternal will be held at St. Dimitrije Serbian Orthodox Church, 2690 Seminole Street on Thursday, October 12, 2017 beginning at 9:00 a.m., followed by the Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Windsor Memorial Gardens.
