Peacefully at home on Saturday, March 9, 2024, and surrounded by the love of her family, our dear wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother Alejandra Lanuza (nee Peralta) passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 76.
To cherish her memory, she leaves behind Roy, her loving husband of 40 years; her son Ryan (Ivy) and grandchildren Makenna, Harlow and Tatum; and her daughter Sharon (Chans) and her grandchildren Aliyah and Connor. She’s also leaving behind to celebrate her life her sister Leonida, sister-in-law Lita, and her many cousins, nieces and nephews on the Peralta and Lanuza side.
She was predeceased by her parents Simeon and Esperanza, and brothers Guillermo, Florentino, Cirilo, Prudencio and Rogelio.
Alejandra was born and raised in San Juan, La Union, Philippines on April 24, 1947. She moved to Manila for high school and later obtained a vocational degree in dressmaking. With the sponsorship and help of her brother Florentino, she immigrated to Winnipeg in 1973. Alejandra’s first job was in a sewing factory making clothes. She married her husband Roy in 1983 and had 2 beautiful children, Ryan and Sharon. She later became a healthcare aide and worked for many years at Central Park Lodge and Oakview Place prior to her retirement.
Alejandra, also known by relatives as “Andring”, enjoyed her time traveling the globe, winning at the casinos, watching her teleseryes on TFC and tending to her garden. She had a green thumb and grew ampalayas, kamotes and pardas. She was a great cook who’s known for her famous Dinuguan which will definitely be missed by all. Most of all, she loved watching over her grandchildren — singing and playing with them. She was kind, thoughtful, funny and had a very contagious laugh. Her generosity also allowed her to sponsor her sister, nieces and nephews to come to Canada. Alejandra was the heart and rock of her entire family. She lived life to the fullest and will truly be missed by all.
Lamay service will be held on Sunday, March 17th, at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 12:00 AM. Funeral Service will follow at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 19th, at Thomson “In the Park”.
The family would like to say a special Thank You to her sister Leonida for staying by her sister’s side to help, support and care for her during this difficult time. Roy, Ryan and Sharon would also like to thank everyone who took the time to visit and pray for Alejandra. You all gave her comfort and strength during this trying time. We know she was so grateful for all your love and support. Lastly, the family would like to thank the Palliative Care Team for their utmost care for Mom. Your kindness, compassion, patience and tenderness did not go unnoticed.
“If tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand that an angel came and called my name and took me by the hand. She said my place was ready in Heaven far above, and that I’d have to leave behind all those that I dearly love. So when tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re far apart, for every time you think of me, I’m right here in your heart.”
