It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Allan Dreger on April 24, 2024 at the age of 93 years old with his family by his side.
Allan is survived by his sons Raymond (Michelle) and Richard (Kim), grand children, Chayla, Jaylene, Madison, Chase, Austin. great-grandchildren Makena and Kalea and his sisters Elaine, Doreen, Violet and brother Larry.
Allan was predeceased by his wife Lorraine and his parents August and Olga Dreger along with brothers Ken & Bob Dreger.
Allan was born in Morris, Manitoba on April 8/1931 and made his home there for a number of years working on the family farm which was located just south of the town of Morris. Farming was his passion from a young age and continued all through his life as he would help out his sister Doreen and husband Mervin when they farmed the family operation. Whether it was running the “Model D” John Deere tractor or the Minneapolis Moline combine he was always there willing to help. Even in his later years he would also help out his cousins in Brunkild with their family farming operations as well. Whenever you went over for a visit the topic of farming always came up, ” are they seeding in your area yet?” or “how do the crops look?”. Farming was definitely in his blood.
Dad also enjoyed a 37 year career at the Manitoba Sugar Company in Winnipeg. There he had started as a mechanic’s helper and eventually worked his way up to be the master mechanic for the company. He ended his career with the sugar company as the facility supervisor. From his days of being a mechanic for the sugar company his knowledge and his ability to fix anything lead him to build a small workshop in the backyard of the house and offer small engine repair and services and any other problems that the neighborhood would have. There are multiple people that have expressed their gratitude and appreciation to him for his mechanical ability to fix their problems; ” he was the go to guy ” when you had a lawnmower or snow blower issue. He also enjoyed watching the grandkids play their sports, whether it was basketball, baseball or hockey, he and mom were always present. One sport that he loved to watch and play was curling. One of the most proudest moments Dad had was when he and Al Wareham won the Canadian Stick Curling Championship in 2008. The trophy that they won was forever on display in the house;he was so proud of that accomplishment.
The family would like to thank the Brightwater Retirement Center for their continuous support for our Dad and also the Victoria General Hospital for the care he received right up until the end.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Allan’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The family advises that there will be celebration of life later this fall.
