It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jean Johnson at the Grace General Hospital just short of her 95th birthday.
Jean was born in Winnipeg and raised in the Starbuck area where she lived most of her life. She attended the Starbuck Consolidated School where she made some of her life-long friends. After graduation from high school, she began working at Great-West Life in Winnipeg and then, after the war, attended Normal School and went on to do some permit teaching in southern Manitoba.
She married Obert Johnson in 1950 and together they began farming in the Starbuck area, while also raising their 7 children. Jean’s skills were varied and included cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, knitting, curling and gardening. She loved sharing these interests with family and friends. Jean volunteered in many community activities and committees at the Starbuck churches, hall, manor and rink, including catering, singing in the choir, and acting in the local community theatre. Jean and Obert had many memorable camping and road trips, with Visalia, California being one of their favourite destinations. Jean’s positive attitude and stamina saw her through many of life’s challenges.
She was predeceased by her parents Robert Livingston and Ellen (Larson), her husband of 61 years Obert, brothers Bill and Roy, sons Keith and Leland, daughter Lorraine and grandson Jesse. Left to mourn and cherish Jean’s memory are her children, Joyce, Pat (Lois), Arlon (Sandra), Julie (Edmond) and Jacquie (Dale). She will also be missed by her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter.
The family would like to thank the staff at Grace General Hospital and Brightwater Assisted Living, for their care and compassion.
A funeral service will be held on January 31, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the Starbuck Trinity Lutheran Church in Starbuck. Interment will occur at a later date.
