After a brief illness Amaro Silva passed away at the Victoria General Hospital November 1, 2010.
Amaro was predeceased by his wife Gertrude in 2009, and is survived by his sons Amaro Jr., Nelson, Wilson (Rhonda) and daughter Elizabeth and grand children Marc, Emily, Michael, and Thomas as well as brother Bernardino of Famalicaó Portugal and other family in Portugal.
Our father immigrated to Canada in 1953 from Famalicaó Portugal in order to build a better life for himself. Amaro was proud to have been one of the first Portuguese immigrants to Canada.
Our father worked hard all of his life and was employed for many years in construction with the Government of Canada on the DEW Line.
Amaro was proud to be a Canadian citizen and also celebrated his Portuguese heritage and culture and passed that love down to his children, one of his favourite times of the year was Christmas eve where he would prepare the traditional Portuguese eve dinner and celebrate with the family.
Our father was a very active and fit man all his life so that last month for him was quite a struggle. We are a family of great faith and we know he is in a better place and is together with our mother and has gone on to his next great adventure and we also know that we will see him again.
Rest in peace Papa you deserve it and will be forever in our hearts.
