Left to mourn her passing are her children Cindy (Rick), Rick (Val), Ken ( Shelley), and Mark (Cathy), grandchildren Carey, Brett, Lindsey, Tyler, (Sam), Eric, (Michelle), Erin, ( Loek)and Jacob and her great grandchildren Dylan, Alexay, Woodson, Mac, Madeline, Emerie and Aubree.
She was predeceased by her parents and her husband Gordon.
Mum was born in Winnipeg and grew up in the West End and in Norwood. She was an only child but had her very best and lifelong friend Joannie for company. She often spoke of riding their bikes everywhere and attending canteen dances together. Much of her childhood summers where spent at Grand Beach with her parents and grandparents and she never tired of telling stories of taking the train there. In later years her summers were spent at the family cabin in Redditt Ontario where she was able to indulge her love of swimming, floating on her back for hours at a time, and reading Harlequin romances and Readers Digest Condensed on the dock. She also spent countless hours picking blueberries and especially enjoyed it when accompanied by any one of her children or grandchildren.
Like a lot of other young women in Winnipeg mum worked at Eatons mail order until she married Dad and they started their family. Shortly after their first child was born, dads mother, our grandma, passed away so they moved into the family home on Morley Ave where mum would keep her promise to our grandma of not only looking after her 4 children and her husband but also her father in law and "grandma's boys her 3 brother in laws.
After dad passed away in 1997 our fiercely strong and brave mum, wanting to be totally independent and living on her own for the first time in her life, decided to take driving lessons and obtained her drivers license at the age of 63. She absolutely loved owning her own car, going where she wanted (especially the A & W drive thru where she left behind many a car part), when she wanted, and with whom she wanted after all those years of looking after everyone else.
The lights of mum's life were her grandchildren and great grandchildren and she loved spending time with them watching their sporting events, concerts and spending summers with them at the lake, spontaneous trips to the zoo and of course, driving them everywhere. They all loved her unconditionally and will miss her deeply.
Mum was a huge sports fan and enjoyed watching tennis, golf ( she loved Tiger but wasn't too fond of Phil), figure skating, and both Jets 1.0 and 2.0. Her favorite player was Dale Hawerchuk "because he married a Winnipeg girl". But her true passion lay with the Bombers. She never missed watching or listening to the game and if they lost it was always the refs fault.
Mum at her core was the kindest, nicest, most welcoming person on earth (although she could also be very stubborn and God help the paper boy if her newspapers were late). She never met anyone she couldn't talk to and who wasn't her friend. Even after Alzheimers and dementia stole her memories she never lost this quality and continued to make friends until the day she left us.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ray Singer for his many years of care and would also like to thank everyone at Golden Links Lodge for the love and respect shown by you to our mum. You truly did become her friends.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Golden Links Lodge.
Rest in Peace Mum. We Love You.
