

Winnipeg, Manitoba – After a brave battle with cancer Anthony Puvirajah (Bastiampillai Anthonythasan Puvirajah), 77, went to be with The Lord at 3:49 PM Thursday, May 11 at home surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Anthony was born March 8, 1940 in Jaffna, Sri Lanka to Bastiampillai and Mariamma. He attended St. Henry’s College, (Ilavalai, Sri Lanka), Fatima College (Batticaloa, Sri Lanka), and St. Patrick’s College (Jaffna, Sri Lanka). He was an avid and accomplished sportsman (Soccer/Football, Track and Field). Throughout his life until the very last moment and in his death, he was a proud and loyal Patrician. Prior to moving to Winnipeg with his family in 1985, he was a manager at Bonars Engineering and Premier Engineering in Colombo, Sri Lanka. In Winnipeg, he was a franchise owner of Mac’s Convenience Stores. Anthony was active within his community, both in Sri Lanka and in Winnipeg. Most recently, he was an active and one of the original members of Knights of Columbus at the St. Vital Catholic Church in Winnipeg.
Anthony is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Lydia Jeyadevi (Suppiah) Puvirajah; son Anton Shiran (wife Jenny); daughters Anto Sharmini (husband Aaron), and Ann Shiroshini (husband Chris); cherished grandchildren Ashwyn, Shiyara, Ashani, and Isabella; sisters Leela, Susila, Thilagam. Prema, Keetha, Gajitha (Kasi), Vanitha, and Karuna; brother Vimalasegaram; brothers-in-law Selvam, Sivarajah, Ranjan, Murukananthan, and Alexander; sisters-in-law Rajani, Thanadevi, Indradevi, Chandradevi, and Selvadevi; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his brother Thanarajah, brothers-in-law Chelliah, Jeevaratnam and Robinson.
A visitation will be held on Monday, May 15, 2017 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 11:00 am (church viewing at 10:30) at St. Vital Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Highway, followed by burial at Fort Garry Roman Catholic Cemetery, 826 Crescent Drive, Winnipeg, MB.
After burial, there will be a reception from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home.
