It is with great sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of Cecile Rougeau on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the age of 91 at MacKenzie Towne Care Center in Calgary.
Beloved mother of Pamela Shiels, Jean O’Brien, Julie Rougeau (Norm)
Grandmother to Kelly Shiner (Junior), Lisa Hoffmann (Joe), Scott Shiels, Shawn O’Brien (Spring), Kevin Shiels (April) and Carmel Gray (Daniel)
Great Grandmother to Ray-Anne, Kaleb, Jordan, Keenan, Paige, Jenna, Zavior, Finley, Zane.
She is survived by sister Genny (Vaughn) Waite, numerous nieces and nephews including Cecil (Joyce) Furlotte, Rita Rougeau, Marcel Rougeau and the Nore family who all held a very dear place in her heart.
She was pre deceased by her infant daughter Shirley in 1957, her loving husband Raymond in 1999, and her daughter Darlene Parcels in 2006.
Cecile was born in Sunnyside New Brunswick in 1930. She left home at 18, to work in Montreal and eventually moved to Port Arthur, On where she met and married her husband Raymond. They then settled down in Winnipeg to raise their daughters. Family was very important to Cecile. Besides her immediate family, we were very close to the Nore family in Selkirk MB. There was also the yearly summer vacations to Port Arthur (Thunder Bay) to visit her mother, brothers and sister. Cecile and her beloved dog Misty relocated to Calgary in 2000 after the death of her husband so she could be close to her daughters and their families.
We used to have weekly dinner and card night at her home which she truly enjoyed. She loved playing 31 and a rousing whist game of ‘Oh Hell’. Once she moved into assisted living, she loved to attend the weekly entertainment so she could sing along. She would always serenade us with a song whenever anyone came to visit her. Her favorite song to sing was ‘Could I Have This Dance’. As she aged and the memory was starting to dwindle, she used to love raising her hands in the air in the middle of conversation and exclaim, ‘I’ve still got it’.
Cecile is being laid to rest in The Gardens of the Four Prophets at Chapel Lawn Cemetery 4000 Portage Ave Winnipeg MB, graveside service to be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 17, 2022
