It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our respected father and grandfather, Charan Singh Bahara, on March 4, 2026, in Selkirk, Manitoba.
Charan Singh Bahara was born in 1939 in Sidhpur, Kapurthla District, India, to Sardar Sadhu Singh and Sardarni Niranjan Kaur, and was one of four siblings. His early years were spent developing his skills as an auto mechanic, and his love of travel took him from Mumbai to Kampala, Uganda, where he married Balbir Kaur.
He was among the many Sikhs exiled from Uganda in the early 1970s and became one of the first Sikh immigrants to settle in Manitoba. Hard working and business minded, he built his life in Selkirk, Manitoba, where he opened his own business, Bahara Motors, in 1987. He became a respected and well known figure who served his community for close to 40 years. He was a founding and contributing member of the Winnipeg Ramgharia Sikh Society.
Charan was predeceased by his wife, Balbir Kaur, and his son, Raju.
He is survived by his children Harvinder, Tajinder, and Satvinder, and by his grandchildren Harjan, Jasleen, Raushan, Jasmine, Sophia, Mila, and Shaan.
Charan had a keen interest in news events and loved listening to Shabad Kirtans. His steadfast faith in Sikhism was the foundation of his strength and determination to face the hardships he endured and celebrate all the goodness he saw. He was resilient and maintained his independence to his last day. Charan helped, supported, and touched the lives of many. His charismatic personality brought a smile to all of us. He will be dearly missed.
A Funeral Service will be held at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. on March 23, 2026, at 10:30 am
