It is with deep sadness that the family of Chun Wah Wong 黃振華 announces his passing on February 14, 2026, at the age of 73, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He left this world peacefully with his loved ones by his side.
Chun will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Thieu Hoa Wong 黃連少華; children Vivienne May (Richard), Lyanna Bonnar (Timothy), Melvin Wong (Clara); and his sister Ying Wah Wong 黃英華. He was a proud and joyful grandfather to Callum May, Henry May, Parker Bonnar, Elena Wong, and Oliver Wong. Chun was predeceased by his parents, Wong Pak Sum 黃柏森 and Man Cheung Tai 文長弟.
Born in Shenzhen and raised in Hong Kong, Chun immigrated to Canada in 1975. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Manitoba in 1981, the same year he married his wife, Hoa. Together, they raised three children and operated Dong Thai Ltd., a family-run grocery store, with dedication, resilience, and pride for 40 years.
After decades of hard work and service to his community, Chun retired in 2021. Retirement brought him one of his greatest joys: the opportunity to travel the world with Hoa, his lifelong partner and closest companion.
Chun will be remembered for his quiet strength, his unwavering devotion to his family, and the steady, loving presence he brought into the lives of all who knew him.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 25th at 10:00 AM at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of HSC WRS3 Level 3 for their care and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Chun’s memory may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.
