Colin William Hawkins

On August 6th 2025, Bill passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 83. He will be sadly and forever missed by his wife Carol, of 61 years and his two children, Cheryl (Daf) and Shawn (Anita). He is predeceased by his parents, Florence and Colin.

Bill was born in Moose Jaw, SK and moved shortly, thereafter, to Winnipeg where the family planted roots in Fort Garry. He met his future wife, Carol where they both attended the neighbourhood Viscount Alexander school. After graduation, Bill started his apprenticeship with CN Rail in Transcona. His entire working career was loyally spent moving up within CN and at retirement, he concluded his career as a Safety & Loss Manager.

Bill and Carol were married shortly after high school and bought their own home in Fort Garry. They raised their family there and formed lifelong friendships with great neighbourhood people and had many memorable dinner parties.

Bill was a gifted handyman and loved to keep busy. He completed many home building projects on his own. Completion took awhile but they were always done to perfection because he had a keen eye for detail. This continued throughout his life, even once they moved on to condominium living. He often became the “handyman” of the complex and helped keep everything pristine and in order.

Bill also enjoyed many travels throughout his lifetime: Camping and road trips with family and friends, California, Arizona, Hawaii, Europe and numerous cruises. He truly treasured time spent with close friends and family - including all of the family dogs who held a special spot in his heart.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the great team at Riverview Health Centre for their excellent care and support.

In accordance with Bill’s wishes, a private family celebration of life will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, and if friends so desire, donations may be made to Riverview Health Centre, 3West, in memory of Bill.
