Peacefully on September 27, 2012, David William McCorriston passed away at Riverview Health Centre.
He was predeceased by his parents Perce and Fern McCorriston.
Dave will be lovingly remembered by his wife Pat, sons Glen (Candy), Brian (Kim), grandchildren, Corey, Aaron, Kalen, Riley and Brinly, as well as his brother Ross (Bonny), sister Pat Hardy, sister-in-law Linda (Bob Haug) and brother-in-law Norman (Linda Sparrow), along with one niece and several nephews.
Dave was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 21, 1942 and grew up in the Crescentwood area. His work ethics were very strong, beginning as a paperboy carrying 50 lb. bags of newspapers on his head and ensuring everyone received their papers on time. The money Dave earned from his route enabled him to buy his very first shiny bike that he was so proud of. This lead to many more jobs which resulted in his purchase of several future cars that he took great pride in as they were always clean and polished.
Dave was a trained electrician but followed in his fathers’ footsteps and joined the Fort Garry Fire Dept. which later amalgamated with the Winnipeg Fire Dept. a lifelong passion for Dave, retiring as a District Chief after 35 ½ years.
Dave was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed watching his boys’ sports activities and later on his grandchildren’s activities as well.
Dave’s dream vacation was Hawaii which he was able to realize three times. After he retired, Texas became his second home. He loved the events there such as dancing, golfing, the camaraderie and especially ‘happy hour’.
Dave was a member of the Wildewood Club where he curled, golfed and played badminton. He had also curled in the firefighter’s league at Fort Rouge Curling Club.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Riverview Palliative Care 3E, Cancer Care Manitoba, Dr. R. Wong, Dr. A. Khelil and all the Home Care Staff.
