

Derrick was predeceased by his grandparents, Eric and Olga Hammerstrom; Dietrich and Marguerite Wiens; father Jacob and mother Violet (Hammerstrom); brother-in-law Larry Snell and infant nephew Jeremy Snell.
Derrick is survived by his sister Marla; brother Murray (Leslie); sister Marilyn (Michael/Mickey); sister Debi (Rolf); brother Barry (Leslie).
Numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and friends around the world.
Derrick graduated high school in 1985 from Luther College in Regina. In 1986, he attended the Katimavik Work Program and travelled from coast to coast in Canada. In 1989, his love of fashion inspired him to attend Artistic Beauty College in Moose Jaw, SK. For five years he excelled in styling hair and competed in multiple hair competitions.
In 1994, he attended John Casablanca (studying skin care right to special effects make-up) in Vancouver B.C. After graduating, Derrick joined the Mac cosmetic team in Vancouver B.C. Seven years later Derrick left Mac Cosmetics to pursue a career on the open seas. Travelling the world, Derrick became a valued sales team member of the Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.
After 12 years, Derrick left Royal Caribbean and landed in Winnipeg. With Derrick's caring heart, he helped his sister after the death of his brother-in-law in 2010. For the last seven years in Winnipeg, Derrick excelled in retail management. With all of Derrick's travels and occupations, he has left behind a smiling face and a loving heart, which will never be forgotten.
