Very peacefully, surrounded by prayer, love and family by his side on Saturday, February 9, 2019, Dinanath (Dean) Singh passed from this life to the next. Dinanath was 85 years old. Dinanath will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends.
Dinanath (Dane/Raj/Dad/Nana/Mamu/Uncle/Brother/Friend) had many names from each of his family members. He was the head of our entire family.
He is survived by his wife, Phool (Resaulsingh) of 65 years and 11 months. He will live on through his family: Daughters, Tara (Jayesh), Chandra (Vishnu), Vindra (Sanjay). Grandchildren respectively: Dipesh (Nicole), Rajesh, Sanjay (Kailey), Chandani, Keeshan, Roshan, Darshan, Jeevan-Dane. Great Grandchildren, Jackson-Dinanath, Cole-Kumar, Nieces/Nephews, Moneca (Wayne), Surajdai, Ramdath (Judy), Chrisindath (Lalita) and their children and grandchildren.
Predeceased by his parents, older sister and two younger brothers. Dinanath was the head of our very large family. He was the eldest son of the eldest son; our extended family mourns together today.
Dinanath came to Canada for 1967 Expo. He travelled throughout the country on that visit and decided this is the place to raise his family. The plan was to continue his own education, as he was a teacher in Trinidad. When he saw the beauty of Canada and the opportunity here, he contacted his wife and children and informed them of the change in plans. Dean taught in Portage la Prairie then moved to Calgary and finally settled in Winnipeg. His adventurous spirit and his silver tongue provided much success in Real Estate. He worked for Century 21, proudly sporting the Gold Jacket. That gold jacket, which he still has, became the symbol of entrepreneurship; his personal Gold Standard. He opened New Haven Realty in 1971 and then Tachvin Enterprises, in 1983. This final company was very successful and granted our parents a comfortable retirement that included trips to India (Rishikesh), Trinidad, Florida, Denver (every three months), England, and the rest of Canada.
Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the doctors, nurses, clinicians and staff at Cancer Care Manitoba. To Dad’s team who extended his life with undaunted research and continued care, we are forever grateful: Dr. Barat Shaw, Dr. Versha Bhatnagar (a favourite niece), Dr. Maxwell, Dr. Johnson, and Dr. Dhaliwhal. Nursing care, Erin and Irena, whom he considered as daughters. Thank god he was selected for the clinical study. It was because of this study our father was able to live as long as he did and see all his grandchildren born as well as their marriages. He was honoured that he could be used as research to help others. He has battled Cancer since 1997.
Forever in our hearts will be all the nurses and doctors from emergency at Grace General Hospital. Most notably the nurses, Nicole, Stephanie, Chi, and Rhonda – who advocated for our family. Also, gratitude to the paramedics who also advocated for our family in our time of need.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, Private Service and cremation to follow.
Donations may be made in Dinanath Singh’s memory to Cancer Care Manitoba. Research must continue to help others live full and productive lives.
