On Monday, June 20, 2022 we lost the Love of our lives, Our Dearest Delly!
Del was predeceased by her son John, and is survived by her husband Jack, Daughter in Law, Melanie, and her beloved dog Shiloh. She was predeceased by her brothers Jim (Carol) and Gary and sister-in-law Lorraine.
She is survived by: niece Leigh (husband Bryan) Peeler, nephew Jim (and wife), nephew Bobby (and wife), nieces Shawna, Tracy and nephew Ryan, brother in law George Matheson and niece Margo, brother in law Allan Matheson (wife Valerie), niece Carla (husband Clint) and nephew Murray (wife Nicole), Naomi and Lily, as well as numerous relatives and friends.
Del was a long time employee of the Government of Manitoba. She was a Secretary in the Finance Department where she made many friends and was a valued employee. She would wish to thank the many bosses she worked under for their love and support. She truly loved working with, and for you all!
First, and foremost, Del was a wonderful wife to Jack and a superb loving mother to John and John’s partner Melanie, whom she adored.
Del was a long- time member of Breezy Bend Golf Club making many friends and enjoying the game. In the summer she loved spending time at their cottage in Clear Lake. She loved to sun tan, swim, waterski, and golf.
Del grew up in Russell, MB. and excelled in figure skating as a young girl. She moved to Winnipeg at nineteen taking a secretarial position. On a family holiday at Clear Lake she met Jack at Danceland, and as he often said, “She looked good to me”, he walked her home, and a beautiful relationship blossomed culminating in marriage in 1967.
After a year in Brandon, where Jack taught at B.C.I. they moved to Phoenix so Jack could follow his hockey dreams while playing for the Road Runners of the WHL. That same year they found themselves in Memphis with the South Stars. The next year they were back in Brandon, Jack having suffered a bad concussion, which ended his hockey career. In October Jack found employment with Assiniboine South School Division at a New School, Shaftesbury High School and taught there until 2001.
The family would like to thank everyone for their acts of kindness and support during this difficult time. A special thank you to the Riverview Health Centre, the nursing staffs and doctors who provided love and care for our wonderful Delly.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
